Intel vs ARM

😨 Requires students to practice assembly language programming techniques on ARM and Intel x86 architectures. 😨
Below gives a comparison between Intel and ARM for cybersecurity, which is the practice of protecting networks, devices, systems, and sensitive data from unauthorized digital access, attacks, and damage:


It is too much for a course to cover two programming languages.

Therefore, this course focuses on Intel (CISC) because
  • most computer servers and desktop PCs use Intel instead of ARM (RISC) or AMD as shown in the figure, and
  • servers are more vulnerable from attacks.

In addition, RISC assembly language will be covered in CSCI 370 Computer Architecture, which is required for Cybersecurity students.
