Memory and Storage (Cont.)

Flash Memory
Instead of using hard disks, most devices use flash memory as their main storage. Flash memory functions like a combination of RAM and hard disk and it is a kind of non-volatile storage; i.e., it retains its contents even when the power is switched off. Updating flash memory can only be done either in blocks or for the entire chip, making it easy to update.

Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is computing in which large groups of remote servers are networked to allow the centralized data storage, and online access to computer services or resources. The figure shows a generic architecture of cloud computing.

Cloud Storage
With cloud storage, you can view, edit, save, and share your files anywhere you can get online. It allows you to keep data with a third-party host—oftentimes for free. Although many third-party hosts offer free storage, it’s typically for a limit data amount. Buy additional cloud storage space if you plan to backup large files.
