Some companies also provide mobile browser emulators/simulators such as MobileTest.me that enable developers to test their products on desktop computers because small devices are not convenient for mobile application development.

Due to the limited resources of handheld devices, mobile browsers differ from traditional desktop browsers in the following ways:
- smaller windows,
- smaller footprints, and
- fewer functions and multimedia features.
For better quality, many companies have developed two versions of their websites, one for desktops like
www.cnn.com and one for handheld devices like
m.cnn.com.
